SRINAGAR: Forces have been instructed to be on maximum alert as security agencies in J&K braced for terrorist attacks with sticky bombs during the busy Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage and summer tourist season, according to Kashmir range IGP Vijay Kumar on Monday, suggesting that terrorism in the region could see a tech-backed dirtier version.
Kumar said after a security review meeting in Anantnag on the Amarnath Yatra, starting June 30, that the terrorists might attack with sticky bombs. “It is a serious threat, especially if and when vehicles carrying tourists, pilgrims, and security forces get stuck in traffic snarls. Terrorist or any miscreant can fix this bomb on a vehicle,” he said.
He said sticky bombs were found in Kashmir for the first time in 2020 during raids. “These are small IEDs, but quite powerful.”
