Cricketer-turned-politician Kirti Azad replaces Mahua Moitra as TMC Goa in-charge | India News

PANAJI: A week after the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) announced that it will restructure its Goa unit, the party went ahead and appointed cricketer-turned-politician Kirti Azad as the state in-charge. Azad will replace Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra who was appointed as the state in-charge last November.
Party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee announced on Wednesday, “Under the guidance and inspiration of chairperson Mamata Banerjee, the All India Trinamool Congress is pleased to appoint Kirti Azad as the state in-charge of AITC Goa unit with immediate effect.”
Azad had switched over to the TMC from Congress last year. He was earlier a BJP MP from Bihar.
The Trinamool has appointed two party leaders, Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev and former MLA Sourav Chakraborty, as state co-in-charge for Goa to assist Moitra ahead of the assembly elections.
