Critics Make Comedy Gold Out Of Trump’s $5 Million Card Reveal

President Donald Trump on Thursday offered a first look at his $5 million “gold card,” a pathway to U.S. citizenship that he looks to sell to wealthy foreign nationals.

The president, while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, showed off the gold card, which features his face, the Statue of Liberty and a bald eagle on it.

“For $5 million, this could be yours,” said Trump as he waved the card around in front of the press gaggle.

When asked who the “first buyer” would be, he replied, “Me, I’m the first.”

He added that he doesn’t know who the second buyer would be before estimating that the card would come out “in about less two weeks.”

Trump, in February, announced that the gold card would offer buyers “green card privileges” along with a “route to citizenship” through their purchase.

It marks an effort by Trump that would essentially replace a program that currently gives wealthy investors, as well as their potential spouse and any unmarried children under age 21, a means to obtain lawful permanent U.S. residency.

“We don’t need Congress,” added Trump at the time. “It’s a path to citizenship. A very strong path, but we’re not doing the citizenship. For that, I’d have to get Congress.”

Trump noted that one million card sales could add up to $5 trillion for the U.S. and suggested he’s even open to Russian oligarchs obtaining a card.

Social media users clowned Trump over his “beyond parody” reveal of the card, with some noting that it arrived on the same day that his latest round of tariffs caused stocks to tank.

On a day that every American saw their retirement, investment, and/or college savings funds take a big hit, the guy who we were told speaks for the working American was trying to sell $5 million US visas. What a man of the (extremely wealthy) people! https://t.co/IZXUUx1Mkz

Way, way cool! Maybe he can hit up Paul, Weiss and Skadden and Willkie and Milbank and S&C to buy up boxes of them! https://t.co/6EVkYnxPmw
