NEW DELHI: The city is set to get a new university which, like the central Delhi University, can establish colleges under it. The Delhi Teachers University bill, passed in Delhi assembly on Tuesday, permits the new institution to establish and maintain colleges, though the legislation does not elaborate on private colleges being affiliated to run its courses, as in the case of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. The existing Ambedkar University Delhi and Delhi Technological University do not have colleges affiliated to them.
The bill says the university has the power to “establish, maintain colleges, campuses and such other centres of education, research, training and extension as deemed appropriate by the university”.
