El Salvador president Nayib Bukele’s selfie steals show at UN summit, as he says Instagram photos have more impact than speeches

El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele takes a selfie portrait during his addresses to the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele did something no other world leader has done from the speaker’s podium at the United Nations General Assembly: take a selfie.

The first thing Bukele did when addressing the audience was take his cell phone out and take a selfie, saying he was doing it to share his experience with the online world. Bukele started with saying that many more people will see the selfie than listen to the speech. In another make for social media moment, his wife Gabriela sat with their infant daughter Layla in the audience during the speech.
