NEW DELHI: Hours after filing an affidavit before the Supreme Court on Monday asking the court to keep away from giving any verdict on sedition laws, law minister Kiren Rijiju said the government will consult all stakeholders before re-considering and re-examining the provisions of Section 124(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
“On the direction of the prime minister, the government will suitably take into account views of stakeholders and ensure that the sovereignty and integrity of the nation is preserved while re-examining and re-considering the law on sedition,” Rijiju said.
Before bringing an amendment to the controversial law through an enabling legislation before Parliament, the government intends to engage civil society groups as part of the stakeholders’ consultation.
