President Donald Trump wished Amazon Inc. founder Jeff Bezos luck in his divorce from his wife MacKenzie, predicting the proceedings will be “a beauty.”
“I wish him luck,” the twice-divorced Trump told reporters at the White House on Thursday as he departed for a trip to the U.S. border with Mexico. “It’s going to be a beauty.”
Trump has often criticised Bezos for his fortunes as Amazon founder and for his ownership of the Washington Post which has been critical of Trump administration. The revelation was made by a US tabloid National Inquirer, which reported that the likely reason behind the world’s most expensive divorce was Bezos’ alleged affair with Lauren Sanchez, a 49-year-old former news anchor and a dance show host.
In a statement released on his Twitter account, Bezos, the richest man in the world, announced his divorce saying, “After a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends… We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other,” the statement continued. “If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again.”
