Itanagar’s Donyi Polo Airport: PM Modi to inaugurate Northeast’s 16th airport tomorrow | India News

NEW DELHI: Arunachal Pradesh will get its first Greenfield airport on Saturday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the Donyi Polo Airport at Hollangi in Itanagar. This will be Arunachal’s third airport after Tezu and Passighat. It will be the 16th airport for the northeast as the government has paid special emphasis on improving connectivity to, from and within the region.
Till 2014, there were nine operational airports in the region. Since then thanks to an increase in the number of operational airports by building seven more airports, aircraft movement in Northeast has increased by 113%, from 852 per week in 2014 to 1,817 per week in 2022, said a government statement.


Locals had for a long time been seeking an airport for Arunachal’s capital Itanagar. The government approved the Hollangi Airport project in January 2019 and completed the work in time despite the Covid…
