NEW DELHI: Even as the government demanded an “urgent safe passage” for all its citizens following the death of an Indian student in the shelling in Ukraine’s Kharkiv, the opposition sought effective steps be taken to ensure that the country’s citizens are brought back safely.
“Received the tragic news of an Indian student Naveen losing his life in Ukraine. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. I reiterate, GOI needs a strategic plan for safe evacuation. Every minute is precious,” said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a tweet.

The Congress has been accusing the government of not doing enough to help the students, many of whom were studying in Ukraine’s medical colleges.
