Maharashtra issues guidelines in POCSO cases: Report them to CWC, juvenile court in 24 hours | India News

MUMBAI: A month after the Bombay high court pulled up police for a delay of 45 days in an abortion procedure of an underage rape survivor under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, Maharashtra issued a guideline on January 3 on steps and procedures to be followed by the cops in all such cases of crimes against women and children.
The state said by a government resolution of January 4, it also requires all cases of sexual crimes against children under POCSO to be reported to the Child Welfare Committee or a special juvenile court within 24 hours. It has even sent police officers on special training for the purpose.
Regarding the underage rape survivor’s case, the HC was informed on January 4 that the newborn was in sufficiently stable health and shifted to a special adoptive agency at Nerul on December 29, 2021. The survivor was not produced by police for 45 days, during…
