MANILA, Philippines — Mark Striegl had a painful debut in the UFC, lasting just 51 seconds in his bout against Said Nurmagomedov in UFC Fight Night: Ortega vs. The Korean Zombie Sunday (Manila time) in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

The Filipino-American bantamweight contender got tagged with a counter left hook as he lunged forward against Nurmagomedov.

That immediately sent Striegl (18-3) face down to the mat, allowing Nurmagomedov (14-2) to launch a brutal ground and pound prompting referee Lukasz Bosacki to stop the fight.

This was Striegl’s first loss since 2015 when he got submitted to Reece McLaren in via rear-naked choke in ONE Championship.

Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, won his eighth match in nine bouts and recovered from his loss against Raoni Barcelos in December.

Striegl was supposed to make his debut in the UFC in August against Timur Taliev but tested positive for COVID-19 days before the bout.
