GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated Donyi Polo airport, the first greenfield airport and the fourth operational airport in Arunachal Pradesh, a state bordering China and Myanmar. With this the total commercial airport count in the northeast region went up to 16.
“This is a new era of expectations and aspirations and today’s programme is a perfect example of the new approach of India,” the PM said in his address at the inauguration function at Holongi in the frontier state.
The PM added that in the seven decades of independence, only nine airports were built in the northeast till 2014. “In a short span of the last eight years, seven airports have been built in the northeast. This rapid development of airports in the region reflects the special emphasis on enhancing connectivity in the northeast,” he said.
