NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved its order on bail plea of Samajwadi Party member Azam Khan in a cheating case in UP but the court proceeding witnessed sharp exchange of words, with Khan contending that state’s action of framing him in frivolous cases as “barbarian” and the government terming him a “habitual offender and land grabber”.
A bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao, BR Gavai and AS Bopanna also raised questions on multiple FIRs being filed against him as a fresh case was lodged just days before bail was granted to him. “You can’t keep doing it. . . Filing fresh case after bail is granted in earlier cases,” the bench observed.
Additional solicitor general SV Raju, appearing for the state government, said Khan had threatened the investigating officer while his statement was being recorded.
