HANOI — Three-time champion wushu Agatha Wong suffered a shocking upset on Saturday — the first of the missed gold medals for Team Philippines — but true to her sport the young model-athlete took it with grace and charm.
“I’m still very grateful,” said the 23-year-old Wong. “With only two months of training (because of the pandemic), I was not expecting anything at all. I’m grateful also because they chose me for the national team.
Dressed in purple get-up adorned with intricate pattern, Wong performed what many thought as a “safe routine,” almost perfectly to get 9.69 points.
Unfortunately, Indonesian Alisya Mellynar opted for a more daring routine and garnered 9.71 points to snatch the gold medal in the women’s taijiquan (no weapon) at Cau Giay…
