Unaware of Olympic bounty, Yulo’s gold quest ‘for country, not just for money’ says official

TOKYO — The country’s brightest hope for a gold-medal performance is not even aware yet of how much the bounty is attached to the feat.

“I haven’t told him yet about it and I don’t plan to,” said Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion on Wednesday at Conrad Hotel here. “Him” is reigning gymnastics world champion Carlos Yulo.

And there’s a very good reason why Carrion isn’t telling him about the incentives that could, according to Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, reach a whopping P50 million.

“I want him to do everything he can for the country, not just for the money,” Carrion said.
